A dirty weekend………….no it’s not what you think! Just to prove that I did work last weekend at the shack and that I’m not vain (okay I admit, I did crop out some of the dirty, wrinkly neck!!) here is a very unflattering pic of me. Yes, that is dirt all over my red, hot face!!! This was after I mowed the so called grass (mainly dirt). We have always had a problem growing any grass there as it is extremely sandy. It was originally (many years ago) some low sand dunes that were leveled over and a tiny amount of top soil spread on top. We now have some horrible grubs (cockchafers I think they are called) that eat all the grass roots and leave nothing but dirt!!
We are putting a bit of a low deck over a small area of dirty sand so at least I will have somewhere to put some outdoor furniture. We took Andrew (grandson) with us to help. It was warm and quite windy for a lot of the time, but I did get to try out my new kayak on the river in front of the shack. It’s only a handful of steps to the river from the shack and quite easy just to pull the kayak down onto the beach.
I’m looking forward to going to the shack after Christmas to enjoy a relaxing read laying back on my sun lounge on the new deck!
Cash got to lay down under a tree and supervise the workers!
